I aspire to this level of confidence
Summer Glau practicing fight choreography for the movie, Serenity (2005). Her kicks are amazing for not having any martial arts experience. She only did ballet. It makes me wish that more ballerinas got into martial arts. Their flexibility is perfectly suited for it.
Always reblog Summer.
“Only” did ballet? Sorry but ballet is more physically demanding than martial arts, and requires more precision, strength, conditioning, and flexibility. The injury that ended Summer’s ballet career forever was a broken toe; that wouldn’t have knocked her out of any pro martial art. She will physically never be able to dance ballet at the same level as she did before she broke her toe, ever again, whereas in martial arts it would’ve meant a few months downtime, maybe some physio, and right back to pre-injury form like nothing happened. The reason Summer picked up her fight choreography so quickly and easily, the reason her kicks are so amazing, is that martial arts is *easier* than ballet.
There’s no “only” about ballet, unless you mean “only” in the sense that ballet was all she did every day for her entire life to the exclusion of all else until she broke her toe, which is actually true, because that’s the kind of commitment and intense training that ballet requires.
Reblogging for the ballet ftw truth
But also: watched Serenity last night, and it is such a Joss masterpiece. It has subtle Star Wars parallels, great character development, and lovely sci-fi hallmarks. would recommend, even to the non-Firefly familiar.
the moment I knew Chloe Moretz would be the best new thing
